Born in Greece, ANGELOS FRENTZOS worked on various experimental fashion projects before taking over as Creative Director of ALMA for four consecutive collections and then launching his own line of menswear. He has also designed the leather and knit collections for VIONNET. Angelos draws inspiration from contemporary art, music and attitude. He weaves the Greek tradition into his work, synthesizing it with and contextualizing it in contemporary culture.

The STRAPPING AILERONS winter collection is uber urban, utilizing strong graphics and bold colours. Angelos has taken inspiration from the Alan Parker film BIRDY, the protagonist of which loses his grip on reality and seeks to fly.

FLYING IS MUCH MORE THAN FLAPPING WINGS. A BIRD CAN FLAP ITS WINGS AND NOT MOVE AN INCH. THEN WHEN IT WANTS TO FLY, THE SLIGHTEST FLICK OF ITS WINGS SEND IT UP AGAINST THE SKY. YOU HAVE TO FEEL THAT AIR HAS SUBSTANCE AND CAN HOLD YOU UP. IT’S MOSTLY A MATTER OF CONFIDENCE.

There is plenty of the signature gothic charm in the winter collection. The materials include boiled wool, Shetland and Angora and hybrids. Angelos experimented with a mix of Angora and cotton to create T-shirts that follow the body perfectly like second skin. Even the Bermuda pants are tailored from boiled wood which lends them an air of distinction and seriousness.

BLACKBIRD SINGING IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT/TAKE THESE SUNKEN EYES AND LEARN TO SEE/ALL YOUR LIFE/YOU WERE ONLY WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT TO BE FREE

The designer's preoccupation with blending seeming opposites is evident in the series of Bomber Jackets which are integral to the collection. A cross-over between a cardigan and heavy-duty military wear, Angelos's Bomber Jacket is structured, a modern-classic.

NOW EVERY TIME I’VE TRIED TO SET HER FREE/I’M GLAD TO SAY SHE COMES RIGHT BACK TO ME/BUT IF I KNEW SHE DIDN’T WANT TO STAY/I WOULDN’T TRY TO KEEP THAT LOVELY BIRD OF PREY
